Myself and a couple others headed over to Peter Olney’s place last Sunday to check out what his backyard has to offer.

Song: Too Close – Alex Clare

The final chapter of the Australian Nationals Series unfurled upon the high steep peaks of the mountains of Bright. The course was loose and dusty, not to mention completely out of control and definitely suited the more experienced racers in the field. Sam Hill took the crown in Elite Men’s whilst Claire Buchar took the Elite Womens. In Juniors Dean Lucas showed some local knowledge in U19′s men whilst Dani Beecroft stormed to the in U19′s female with a clear margin.

What a day, after four days of fairly consistent dry weather the heavens opened up on race day, sections that were once inches deep in dust were now slick and fast running. Bets were laid on and changed all over again as weather became the deciding factor.
There was a major upset in U19′s women with Kellie Wienert taking the win from Gemma Greentree with Danni Beecroft in third as she and Tegan Molloy both battled to save their race runs after flatting out in the start of their runs. In U19′s Dean Lucas took the win much to his own surprise from Thomas Crimmins and Aiden Varley.
In Elite Women, Tracey Hannah surprised herself edging out local Caroline Buchanan for the Australian title, Lisa Mathison fell into third.
In Elite Men it was a brother sister double act and another win for the new Polygon team, with Mick Hannah muscling the field to take the win almost two seconds up on Jared Graves in second. Sam Hill rallied for third which could possibly be his best result on a track he notably dislikes.

Brosnan back on the bike at Canberra National champs during Wednesday practice

Part 1 of a 3 part series. This episode takes you into the life of each rider, letting you know their background and goals heading into the 2013 Australian National Downhill Series.

For the Privateers project I wanted to do something different to the standard Mountainbike film. A film where it isn’t just the top five or so guys being followed, instead, looking into those who are aiming to be the best they can. I wanted to take a step back and look at the riders who aren’t sponsored such as Luke, Jon and Mark. When I was selecting these riders I wanted them to have an interesting story that would relate to fellow Mountainbikers. Luke, is a fast dedicated junior who is looking to pursue down hilling as a career and has had to make some significant choices to be able to do so. Jon on the other hand is 30, and is getting back into the sport after riding cross country for the last 10 years. Jon was once like Luke, a junior downhiller with potential but maybe not enough motivation at the time. Returning for another crack he is now looking to be competitive, in a field that is probably tougher than ever. Mark, a rider that probably best relates with most riders out there. A worker during the week but loves to ride on the weekends and have fun with mates. This by no means he is any less competitive when he shows up in the start hut.

Whoa! This trailer by Jake Lucas ought to get your blood pumping, its completely off the richter. As the sequel to Insight, Lucas has had much to live up to and so far it appears he’d nailed it. Focusing on the Vic DH series primarily it also has some killer rider segments lined up from such names as Connor Fearon, Dean Lucas and more. We actually caught up with Jake for a little behind the scenes story whilst he was filming Tim Eaton a couple of months ago and you can read all about it here ( Can’t wait to see the final product.

Filmed in Bright Australia, awesome track, super steep, lots of roots, best time, hope the video replicates that well.

The Roost – S.A. State series round 6

This is the second round of the SA DH series at the Fox Creek Bowl. The track is a challenging one with plenty of off camber to keep riders guessing. In the end the event was run and won in spectacular fashion by Connor Fearon who smashed the elite field.
