The second round of the 2014 World Cup takes the Specialized Racing crew to Cairns, Australia, not far from Troy Brosnan’s hometown of Adelaide. After the first World Cup round in South Africa, teammate Mitch Ropelato joined Troy on his home turf to unwind before the team takes on the next track. Adelaide was a return to an old yet friendly rivalry between Connor Fearon and Troy Brosnan. In the end Fearon came out the victor there but with both riders showing form it was with anticipation, that the Buller National round began.
Friday’s at national downhill races are chilled. Most people still have work(surprisingly), so those racers that are there walk the track, check lines, engage in a few chilled practice runs with mates or just plain old hang out in their tents. This goes even doubly so now that seeding has been eliminated from saturday afternoon.
Unfortunately the only other note to make on friday practice was the disastrous crash resulting in the broken femur of Kye Hore. After a airlift to a Melbourne hospital he is already up and slowly walking again. Healing vibes from the community go out to him. …View More
The 14th of December saw racers arriving at Narbethong, the home to Round 3 of the Victorian Downhill Series. Nestled in a state forest and plantation forest, only a stones throw away from last at Granton this round was bound to be a cracker. Fortunately this time mother nature was on our side with clear blue skies welcoming the riding horde to this remote feeling location.
The upper section of track saw plenty of roots and slippy surfaces from the dew that had settled from the previous nights cool temperatures. The common belief was that this slipperiness would fade quickly as riders wore the track in and thankfully it for the most part, did. Only meters down the track there are some solid berms, hitting one at full tilt helped to confirm a riders confidence in this track. Pushing down the track there were plenty more roots, and high speed, solid berms. This track has a tendency to get away from you fast, in a good way, and as riders snaked down they found plenty of small drops and kickers to keep them on their toes. Throughout Saturday morning the course dried up, especially in the lower parts. The extended time in the sunlight and the increased rider traffic throughout the day, meant rolling speed was fast and it was increasingly difficult to pick just who might be on top on Sunday arvo. However, you would have to be stupid to bet against Troy Brosnan. …View More
Troy Brosnan takes you for a run down Narbethong for the third round of the Victorian Downhill Series. Narby as its colloquially known, is legendary among Victorian Downhillers and Brosnan seems to have found out why. It’s high speed, open with plenty of fast corners and drops look killer. Why oh, why didn’t I remember to head down to this round.
Time flies. The entire Specialized Racing crew is trying to wrap our heads around the fact that another season has drawn to a close. For the downhill team, all eyes at the final event were upon Troy Brosnan. Gwin’s out due to shoulder injury, and Mitch opted to stay in the USA. Troy slayed some demons at the Leogang, Austria, course, where he suffered a spectacular crash last year.
Onto the off-season. A little time to recover from injuries and fatigue, the promptly get back to training and testing. 2014 will be here before we know it. Thanks to Aaron, Troy, Mitch, the entire S-Racing crew, the event promoters, course designers, and most of all to the fans for another year!
The gravity-fed guys go way, way north for the penultimate round of the 2013 UCI Downhill World Cup held at Hafjell, Norway. Troy Brosnan and Mitch Ropelato headline for Specialized Racing, while Aaron Gwin is forced to sit out due to a shoulder injury sustained at the World Championships.
In rain-soaked conditions, Mitch’s development continues, cracking the top-20 with a fast run despite a mishap. Troy posts another top-10 but clearly will not be satisfied until he hits the top step of the podium.

That time of year again. The one time of year when people from all over the world converge in what’s seen as the mecca of mountain biking that is Whistler, all for the love of bikes. Crankworx. What’s different this time around is that after years of following it online, I was lucky enough to be there in person to experience it all first hand. Instead of looking on in awe at all the amazing photos from others, I had the chance to take my own. The following is a re-cap of most of my time and my exposure to what is in my opinion, one of the greatest events I’ve ever attended, with the help of those images. …View More
