ROCKY TRAIL ROLLERCOASTER

Alexander Buring gets over the back on his way through this descent

After being split between two camps last year, All Mountain has come under one banner in NSW to produce the Rocky Trail Rollercoaster Series, with a full roster and tracks. Round one yesterday was at Ourimbah to much success, postponed by one week due to rain the turnout was perhaps not as strong as it should have been but was still formidable. Utilising the upper section of the downhill track and lower “Rollercoaster” section of the cross country course, there was fun had by all with the top being dry and the bottom wet.
Racing was fast and furious and not without casualties, local Brad Kelly took the win in Elite Men with Jon Odams and legend Michael Ronning in second and third. There was some dispute with timing but more on that later. In the womens Genevieve McKew took out the top spot from Vanessa Thompson and Lauren Mackertich.
Full report in the upcoming mag including all the thrills and spills. Results can be found HERE. Click through for gallery Continue reading

PUMP ROLL & JUMP, THE MT STROMLO ROLLERCOASTER

It seems every second week I am in Canberra for one reason or another, at least 99% of those occasions bike race related, so it can become a little hard to become excited about return trips, especially to when it involves the hume and federal highways (boring). Stromlo can also be a little bit grating when you spend all the time behind the lens but never fear this time the photography would be taking a little bit of a backseat.
Having been to the previous Rollercoaster held at Stromlo earlier in the year I was super keen to return when I heard there would be another. There has been a lot of hype placed on All Mountain bikes and races from the industry as of late so when I arrived I really did expect to see more people equally as amped to race. No matter, they just might when I finish my short tale.
Although the title may suggest you need a all mountain rig, the course at Stromlo is far from technical and it only uses the fun stuff. From the observatory riders rode along the flat and up to the Western Wedgetail Junction before beginning their descent, then heading down into Skyline before banking left and heading down luge. Through the berms the track then veered off in a alternate directions, heading back up a fire road for a small pinch climb before dropping briefly into the downhill course and into the new playground section. Riders then had the choice to either drop in off a set of three log drops or go around them into a wallride/berm. The final section comprised of berms and corners before the legendary downhill sprint for the end.
