With such a large gap in time from the first round at Thredbo, you could almost be forgiven for thinking Del Rio was the first round of the state downhill series. Everyone was feeling pretty chatty and happy to see one another again and the buzz word in the pits was ‘rain’, when would it hit? would it even rain at all?
With storms scheduled from midday saturday till sunday afternoon, it was anyone’s guess especially since there was nothing but blue skies above.
Although Del Rio was part of the series last year, the “Del Sin” track hasn’t been featured for two years. For those who haven’t seen it before or traversed its slopes it’s quite simply put into the short and gnarly catergory, with big hits and technical sections being the aim of the game.
The track is into it from the off, with a rock section to get the eye in before heading down to “lemon lime and bitters” which features a short drop before a meter high, low speed, huck drop. Heading down the course “the chute” had many riders stumped, the bare rock face playing havoc with their minds, it was a simple task of trusting your equipment and plowing on. …View More
