Coming on the heels of a successful debut of the Trek Factory Racing World Cup team in 2013, most of the 2014 squad assembled in Sothern California for team camp, racing and general team bonding. This video attempted to captured some of the “spirit” of these great group of athletes and staff as they kick off the 2014 race season in high gear.
Not everything went to plan for Australian’s Bec Henderson and Dan McConnell at World Champs this year. McConnell was left injured after an encounter with a monkey and Henderson saw a nasty crash in final practice. Their Canadian team mate Emily Batty suffered a similarly unfortunate race as an on going sickness brought her down. Recap moments from the fifth round of World Cup series in Mont-Ste-Anne, Quebec Canada. Bec Henderson recaptured the World Cup leader’s jersey after losing it on a tie-breaker in Vallnord, Andorra. Teammates Dan McConnell rode to a podium fifth place finish, while Emily Batty scored a top-10 in her home country race.
Leading up to this weekend’s UCI World Championships in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, four members of the team are poised to represent their respective nations and Trek in this key international competition. Toeing the start line will be: Emily Batty representing Canada; Russell Finsterwald for the USA; and Bec Henderson and Dan McConnell for Australia.
The cross-country competition commences on Friday with the under-23 women’s and men’s races, in which both Bec Henderson and Russell Finsterwald will race for their final year of U-23 eligibility. Bec comes into the race as a podium favorite:
“I am very excited to get to South Africa Worlds. I love the course,” said Henderson. “It’s super fast and flows nicely with some big technical features but can also turn to a crazy course when the rain comes down.
