I arrived at Taree for round 1 of The Finish Line Single-track mind series which was due to be held at the awesome trails of Kiwarrak state forest also know as the “Tip Trails”, And as usual the Taree trail fairy’s had been at it again with not a leaf or stick out of place! The atmosphere was pumping and everyone was ready to have a ball for either 4 or 7 hours.
This time I would be going solo for 4 hours, it was something different to the usual races I go after with most only being an hour to 2 hours long, it was going to be a great challenge. With Port To Port only just around the corner it would be the perfect race to get some quality kilometers in the legs. …View More

The opening round of the Finish Line Singletrack Mind Series has been widely heralded as a fantastic success. The planets aligned with perfect weather, a sublime course and a high quality field including the current Solo 24 Hour MTB World Champion Jason English.
Round 1 would also unveil plenty of new initiatives for the 2014 season with Finish Line now the headline sponsor of the series, 4 Hour solo racing categories added, and the launch of the Chocolate Foot Women’s development team.

Since the last Finish Line Singletrack Mind Series event at Taree in 2013, the word has spread about the brilliantly built and magnificently maintained trails of the Manning-Great Lakes Tip Riders Club. Competitors arrived back to the transition zone with massive smiles after each and every lap, many saying that this was the finest track they’d ever raced on. …Read More

As we all know, things don’t always go to plan. Yesterday Mowbray Park Farm (MBF) contacted us to say they are concerned that they may not have their development application approval from Council in time for our race, Round 4, on Sunday 31 August. Apparently wheels have been turning slower than usual for many applications and the general consensus from MBF, Wollondilly Trailblazers Club and ourselves was that, without a guarantee that we could race at MBF on 31 August, we should look for an alternative venue now.
It’s unfortunate for all parties – MBF miss out on welcoming you to their venue and Wollondilly Trailblazers miss out on showcasing their new trail, the result of hundreds of hours of labour. We’re obviously disappointed but are thankful that this was highlighted to us sooner rather than later giving us the opportunity to find an alternative venue and you guys plenty of notice to modify your travel plans.

Every rain-laden cloud has a silver lining and we’re stoked to say that SCUM’s Coondoo Road track will replace Mowbray Park Farm. We were a little bummed that we didn’t have space for SCUM in the 2014 Series, but now you’ll get to enjoy Coondoo’s fast and flowy trails for a 5th year in a row, making it now the only venue that has featured in every edition of the Finish Line Singletrack Mind Series!

National Champion and Mixed Threes winner Holly Harris, who also recorded the two fastest female laps

There can be only one word to describe Sunday’s SRAM Singletrack Mind Series event and that’s “perfect!” Glorious spring weather greeted riders as they rolled to the start line for Round 3 of the 5 event series and with mild temperatures all day, a course that was in excellent condition and a large, high quality field entered, a day of tight and thrilling racing was assured.

Off the start, the first riders to hit the front were talented youngsters Harry Wiles (Stevens Bikes) and Jack Lavis (Target Trek Racing) and experienced road racer turned solo rider Cameron Peterson. Recording the fastest lap of the day, Lavis took the lead in the overall race and the Men’s Pairs category while Wiles gave his team a solid lead in the Male Threes.

The solo categories featured some new and some absent names. With the World 24 Hour solo championships coming up soon many were keen to give the legs a final hard hit-out while some, including Series leader Ed McDonald, decided they’d start their taper period and skip the round. This would present an opportunity for others including Andrew Lloyd who trails McDonald in the Series by just 25 points. Lloyd wouldn’t have an easy run to the 80 points on offer as wildcard entrant Cameron Peterson kept the pressure on in the early laps but Lloyd kept to his race plan never relinquishing his lead. The Female Solo category saw an equally entertaining battle between Lana Moy and current solo 24 hour National Champion Liz Smith. Moy taking the early lead but Smith’s experience showed through as she put down a set of very consistent lap times to pass Moy and establish a small but decisive lead. Smith taking her first win in the Series this year after a pair of 2nd placings. …View More

After receiving nothing less than glowing praise after last Sunday’s opening round of the SRAM Singletrack Mind series, the incredible flowing trails of Kiwarrak State Forest at Taree are likely to see mountain bikers descending en masse to experience them first hand. Race promoter Chocolate Foot has helped put Taree firmly on the MTB map making it part of the prestigious SRAM Singletrack Mind series.

Now in its fourth year the SRAM Singletrack Mind series is well established as the premier east coast endurance mountain bike series and attracts a host of highly-credentialed riders and teams such as OnTheGo and Target Trek. The star entrant for round one was none other than Port Macquarie’s 4-time World solo 24 hour and 2-time MTB Marathon National Champion, Jason English. Fresh off his second Marathon Championships win the previous weekend his main rival, Canberra’s Ed McDonald, would be hoping that the tough course at Atherton might have drained English’s legs. …View More
